 A beautiful tree in the ficus family with dark green foliage and often grows into a small tree to large bush. The Kadota is a very famous fig due to the fact that they are used in commercial agriculture and the fruits are commonly sold at super markets. Also used in the making of the famous fig newton and besides eating the ripe fruit off the tree they are ideal for drying, canning and preserves. The green to yellow fruit have pinkish to redish brown jelly like flesh that is sweet and delicious. The Kadota often produce fruit twice a year, once from spring to summer on the older growth from the last year and again from late summer to fall on the new growth from that year. These fast growing trees like full sun but are suitable for growing indoors, regular watering in well draining soil, not picky about soil ph and cold hardy down to USDA Zone 7a ( 0 degrees F ). They work great as a stand alone, anchor in large flower and garden beds, hedges, lining sidewalks and driveways and in edible gardens.
