Very rare and beautiful trees from the Canary Islands. They have dark green thick, grass like foliage with faint pink lines on the leaf edges. Their growth rate is somewhat like palm trees. They grow slow for the first few years and picks up speed as they get more established. They begin to branch out forming a canopy and trunk in the shape of a mushroom. another interesting fact about these trees. Why they are called "dragons blood" is because when the trunk is scored with a knife. Dark red sap come out and when let to dry it will get hard as a rock. jewelry is made from the dried sap by polishing it. They grow to a height of 40 foot tall. Liking full sun, regular watering(but very drought tolerant and suitable for xeriscaping when somewhat established). They like well draining soil with a soil PH around 6.1 to 6.5. They work great as specimens, in rock and cactus gardens and backdrops in large flowerbeds.
